Agatha Christie’s classic crime story has arrived at Richmond Theatre, in Ken Ludwig’s stage adaptation. We are taken on a thrilling ride, brimming with suspense, in this murder mystery which keeps you guessing until the very end.

The story takes place on the luxurious Orient Express, where Detective Hercule Poirot must solve the murder of a passenger. With the train stalled by a snowdrift and all suspects trapped together, Poirot delves into each character’s secrets to unravel the truth.

The eerie atmosphere is heightened by the sinister sound & video design, that keeps tensions high. I loved the revolving set that offered glimpses into the character’s motives and provided much intrigue. The costumes perfectly embodied the 1930s glamour, while the train set design was visually striking! The scene transitions felt clunky and distracting at times, however, I still appreciated seeing the variety of locations.

Michael Maloney delivers a fantastic performance as Poirot, balancing tension and wit. I most enjoyed how much emotion was displayed in Act 2. Maloney gives a riveting speech that leaves us on the edge of our seats. My other standouts included Helen Hubbard (Christine Kavanagh) whose comedic flair & interactions with Princess Dragomiroff (Debbie Chazen), were a highlight. Bob Barrett’s Monseir Bouc added lightness to the tense moments with his exuberant eagerness to solve the mystery!

This production of Murder on the Orient Express delivers the most engaging experience and is a must-see for mystery lovers. It’s playing at Richmond Theatre, before continuing its U.K. tour!
